When it comes to whimsical eclectic décor, nowhere does it quite as boldly and stylishly than 5* boutique hotel The Fife Arms in Braemar, Scotland. So of course, when it comes to the festive season, they take traditional decor and throw the rule book away, with charming cosy corners, roaring fires, and a highland twist on the conventional Christmas tree.
Here I look at The Fife Arms Hotel at Christmas:

THE CHRISTMAS TREE
Most hotels focus their festive décor on the Christmas tree. The one we see as we walk in, that grabs our attention and contributes to our lasting impression of the hotel. The Fife Arms does not disappoint with a huge, magnificent tree in their reception, adorned with classic nature inspired decorations such as the sweet-smelling orange garlands and chic bows. Elsewhere in the hotel there are Christmas trees in homely nooks and warm corners, including my favourite in the Foghouse with its dreamy cloud decorations.

COSY CORNERS
It is the smaller details that really alleviate The Fife Arms cosy and inviting feel, such as the natural wreaths placed above crackling fireplaces and sparkly garlands across staircases, window ledges and even draped around the exterior of the hotel. All these décor elements and joyful accessories leave you with a sense of snug comfort and festive wonder.

TABLE DÉCOR
Around the Fife Arms there are all sorts of quirky rooms and stylised areas, such as the gentleman’s whisky bar Bertie’s, the Art Deco Elsa’s bar or even the Flying Stag pub which has a comfy atmosphere with antler décor and sheepskin throws. One of the more interesting spaces is the private dining Fire Room with a striking floating chandelier made from pots, pans, and pails, and where the table décor mixes old and new with floral centrepieces taken from right outside in the highland countryside.

ARTWORK
One of the most exceptional qualities of the Fife Arms hotel is the artwork, as it is a space that feels like an exclusive gallery. Not surprisingly as it is owned by the acclaimed global gallery, Hauser & Wirth, there is no space left untouched by their artistic eye and diverse collection. At Christmas they complement their artwork with the festive interior touches such as imaginative garlands, wildlife bouquets, and fragrant smelling Christmas trees.
