After a year like 2020 can you think of anything more delightful and decadent than visiting a peaceful spa hotel? Unfortunately, most of us won’t be able to make that a reality, however we can all daydream to our hearts content – and to give you a little hand I have compiled a lovely little list of the 8 most serene spa interiors from around the world. Sit down with a cup of tea, put your feet up and let’s fantasise together about fabulous facials, thermal baths and infinity pools in some of the most stunning settings you have ever seen.

THERME VALS
Switzerland
Situated at the 7132 Hotel in Switzerland, the Therme Vals Spa is an accolade to pure relaxation. Designed by Peter Zumthor, the spa interior merges the natural landscape it sits within and innovative design. Positioned amongst magnificent hills with the St Peters spring delivering warm 86 ºF water to the thermal baths and the grass covered roof, the hotel looks as though it has emerged from beneath the mountain. Zumthor used locally quarried quartzite stone to create the moody striped effect within the spa interior walls. Large sky lights above the baths form dramatic light and shadow effects that intensify the restorative and serene experience.

BULGARI HOTEL
Milan
Located in the centre of Milan, The Bulgari Hotel feels like you have stepped into your very own exclusive oasis. Inspired by opulent Asian design, the spa combines local materials such as Vicenza stone and Turkish Afyon marble. The shimmering indoor pool reflects off the mosaic walls leaving you feeling relaxed and restored. Design that pays tribute to the ancient tradition of health and wellness whilst also being firmly rooted in luxury, glamour and decadence – exactly what the Italian brand is famous for!

BLUE MEDICAL SPA
Los Angeles
Bold, brash and all sorts of beautiful, the Blue Medical Spa in Los Angeles is certainly one of the most original out there. Situated in the historical 1950s La Renia Movie Theatre, the spa has given the building new life with an interior focused on saturated blue colour tones, illuminating lights and fluid shapes. Manmade materials such as glass and plastic give the space a medical character but rather than feeling cold and clinical, there is a sense of wonderment and exhilaration. The ultra-modern spa interior ensures you feel protected and sheltered from the frenzied city centre.

AGUAS DE IBIZA
Ibiza
A spa I have had the pleasure of visiting myself, this space reflects the chilled and relaxed vibes of Ibiza at its best. Located in the basement of the hotel you are treated to a private pool with stylish luxe details and creamy hues that look and feel blissfully calm. There is also a small exclusive courtyard for you to lay in the sun and grab that much needed dose of serenity. A glamourous yet contemporary interior that focuses on eco-friendly design along with embracing feng shui fundamentals.

OMNI AMELIA ISLAND PLANTATION
Florida
A world class spa focused on wellness and meditation, the unspoiled natural surrounding definitely encourages the interior design. An amalgamation of local materials and an earthy colour palette leave you with an impression of innate balance and harmony. Located within a lush lagoon and bird sanctuary, mother nature is a central décor theme and whether you are walking on the footbridge, taking in all of the breath-taking surrounding wonder or within the gentle meditation garden you are in a place of peace and serenity.

APHRODITE HILLS
Cyprus
Another spa I have had the treat of visiting and designed by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo and the interior design studio Hirsch Bedner Associates, this spa is motivated by the Mediterranean Sea and ancient Greek traditions. The building is constructed from locally sourced stone, and within its centre a courtyard sits quietly. There are lulling sea views, a gorgeous infinity pool and a dancing fountain that celebrates the sound and soothing effects of water. Calming neutral tones are teamed with flowing fabrics and there is a sense of ethereal peace and relaxation that you will be left with for many days.

E’SPA GIANFRANCO FERRE
Milan
Another beautiful space at the centre of Milan and not technically in a hotel, but instead within the boutique store of Italian fashion designer Gianfranco Ferrè. A collaboration with E’SPA had brought about a truly grand and decadent interior with an ethos of exquisite beauty and a comforting aura. A dark and sophisticated palette with black and brown mosaic tiles teamed with hints of glistening gold ensure you feel spectacular and hassle-free. The traditional stone of the building is united with the new, as ivory stucco, matching cream leathers and dark glossy wood, such as walnut and ebony, form a current yet graceful space. Custom made lighting includes candle like lamps and an orange glow derived from plexi glass lights, all designed with the purpose of generating a consoling, restful and flawless ambiance.

AMANJENA HEALTH & BEAUTY CENTER
Morocco
Décor representative of the exotic romance and charisma of Marrakech, this spa boasts dusty pink clay walls and distinctive morocco arches that are reassuring and palliative. Decorated by French based architectural studio Design Realization, this spa encompasses exquisite Arabic touches with a contemporary twist. The burning lamps, spicy scents and peaceful pools aligned with olive, palm and citrus trees feel fresh and luminous. Within the spa there are traditional Moroccan details such as the intricate wood carved doors, glossy tiling and onyx columns that help transport you to a place a million miles away from home.
