When it comes to minimalist interiors, there cannot be another home more absolute and encompassing of this style than that of global superstars Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. Enlisting the expertise of Belgium designer Axel Vervoordt, this suburban mansion was transformed into a radical work of art, driven by expansive light, magnificent proportions and a nurturing neutral colour palette.

Vervoordt has been highly celebrated as an iconic influence on Belgium design, including understated, timeless and innovative interiors. A style absorbed in raw materials, uncluttered spaces, opulent objects and neutral hues that feels seductive and welcoming. Vervoordt is not only known for his minimalist style but also his use of exquisite antiques and the manner in which he elegantly combines contradictory objects creating a sense of history and modern modification.

Vervoordt has implemented this aesthetic and ethos within the Kardashian-West home, producing a space that feels pure, luminous and severely simplistic. A brief originating on the “space of the mind” and “importance of silence” meaning minimalism could be transformed into an extreme state.
“Kanye and Kim wanted something totally new. We didn’t talk about decoration but a kind of philosophy about how we live now and how we will live in the future. We changed the house by purifying it, and we kept pushing to make it purer and purer”. – Axel Vervoordt speaking to Architectural Digest

Seemingly endless hallways with no furniture or décor play with your mind and any ‘normal’ proportional expectations you may have for a home. The living spaces contain simple and camouflaged neutral furnishings such as an original Jean Royère Polar Bear sofa and an illustrious Vervoordt Floating Stone table. Off-white plastered walls appear throughout the entire home (with the exception of their daughter North’s bedroom which is flooded in bright pink).

This space is subtle yet a major design statement, and there is a feeling of captivation, intrigue and curiosity. As well as Vervoordt, there were other designers that lent their signature style to the home including the architectural designers Family New York, Witz International Landscape Architects, Claudio Silvestrin who designed the immense master bath and Isabel Rower who conceived the giant soft sculpture (seen below).

The Kardashian- West home is ‘boundary defying’ in its ambition and application, a purist haven that still manages to feel warm, comforting and most importantly, according to Vervoordt, soothing. The chaos and bedlam of Kim and Kanye’s lives are juxtaposed with their restful and calming home.
